Fresh off the file station, my WR5 bump key.

Check it out and tell me if this thing is ready to rock or should i be afraid to stick this thing in a lock.

Jamie,

Keep in mind that filing too deep is not as bad as filling not deep enough. Also, i would suggest taking the peaks down a bit. You can do this by making the valleys wider (they should be anyhow). Once you make the valleys a bit wider, the peaks will then come down in height. Make sense ?

Indeed, I'll give it a go tomorrow. Thanks for the advice. I'll make sure and report my success.

After all... I have 4 more of these bad boys to make.

Wait a sec. If i made the cuts deeper, the ramps will get steeper. I shaved some off the shoulder and tip as well.

Does it look like my peaks are even high enough?

No luck so far but it could just be my technique.

Also, why is it that we don't have a picture archive of bump keys? I think it would be a great idea for reference.

Heres some pics of what i have now.

I drew in red what i thought you meant. I think 2 is more along the lines of what you mean. Wider Vallies. Not sure if i can afford to bring the peaks down anymore.

DOH! :brickwall:

Yes, sorry about that... you want wider valleys... not deeper. the pins need to just drop right in there and w/ them a bit wider there shouldn't be any problem.

Take a look at our keys, www.bumpkey.us, and you'll see what i mean. Really with the WR5 the peaks are low and the valleys are wide. Keep us update!!

OK pulled out one of my dead bolts that i used to practice picking with. By luck it's a Weiser. I pulled out 2 of the 5 pins to start our with. Bumped it on the 3rd try. I'll put the rest of the pins in tomorrow and try it out.
