I have seen everything from wooden spoons to fancy made just for bumping hammers.

What to use, oh what to use? I don't want to spend $25 on a hammer only to find out I had, for the most part, the same thing in my gunsmith tool box (all kinds of strange hammers and things for that hobby let me tell you)

Can I get advice on about what weight I am looking for and the type of force I will want to project to the key. It looks like you give it a good whack in the videos but I know all to well a whack with a soft nylon hammer is very different than with a hard plastic hammer!

Look around the other Forums and you'll find lots of info.

Homemade hammer

I've seen talk of a reflex hammer, which sell for less than $5

There's even a video of a guy palm-smacking locks open

I've got to say the homemade hammer looks like a good option. *When* i have time I'm gonna actually make one and give it a try.

I always use hard plastic back of a screwdriver as hammer and it works well all the time.
