So i can now bump a Schlage lock.. 9 out of 10 times..
My Schlage Bolt lock on the bother hand.. I've yet to bump..

is there a different method to be used when bumping bolt locks?

i'm using the pull out method now.. and like i said it seems to be working fine on a normal lock..
just.. cant seem to get it on the bolt lock

If they are keyed differently, it's probably a matter of a very well made bump key that's not cut quite deep enough. (If the one you're having trouble with has a low pin or two.)

Otherwise, the method is essentially the same for both of them.

The peaks (teeth) of your key should be filed a little bit, but what's going to really fix the problem is lowering the grooves, the spaces between the "teeth". If those grooves are a little too high, it can cause the bottom pins to naturally rest slightly above the shear line, making bumping impossible, as that pin will never be set.

So, in short, don't just take the peaks down. Reduce the entire key, keeping all of your proportions the same. Look on the front side of each peak and look for a small mark where they are impacting the pins. The key will work as long as you don't file the peaks down so low that the pins aren't hitting the peaks at all.

alright so i made a new key.. and .. i think i filed it down a little 2 much ^_^
I can see that the pins still hit the teeth but.. for some reason it wont bump the lock..

anyways thats alright i went back 2 my first key anyways..
so .. i successfully bumped the bolt lock once..
^_^ !!

got that by filing down the groves tiny bit more.

hmm guess i have to file it down a little more..
now i just dont want to break my only working bump key haha
o well i guess best way to learn is from our mistakes

:)

We all learn from our mistakes and bumping is the field in which we learn all the time.
