I've seen Busted recently and it's an interesting video if nothing else. The best piece of advice given in this video is to let the cop search your car if he asks. As long as you have properly hidden whatever contraband you might have, it's all good, because like the video says, the cop won't look as hard if he doesn't suspect anything. I've seen this proven time and again with my own cars.

When dealing with police, it's always good to know your rights well enough that you can quote statute numbers if need be. It's been my experience that when a cop realizes that you know your rights very well, he may not like it, but he will back off because he knows he can't walk all over you. Especially when he tells or asks you to do something and you can quote him a law that says you don't have to. Just don't be a smarta** about it. He will be mad enough simply because you know your rights.

Plus keep in mind that many cop cars these days have audio and video recording capability, so everything you and the cop says is often caught on tape. I don't know if this is later reviewed by department superiors unless there's a COPS-worthy event taking place, but you can be sure the cop knows very well it's there and he will behave himself. And if the cop doesn't behave, you can always have your lawyer subpoena the video for evidence.

The easiest solution... don't do anything that would warrant your interacting with the police, and don't carry any contraband! Don't carry bump keys on your person unnecessarily, and if you do carry some, keep them on your key ring with the rest of your keys. You'll never lose them, you won't look like a big creep, and you can never get busted for plain sight without a search, because no one would ever find your bump keys on your key ring in the ignition.

And, there's no legitimate reason for a police officer to take your keys... "Hey, mind if I borrow your keys?"... oldest line in the book to get into your trunk, glove box, and anything else in the car that's locked and to which a key might reside on your key ring.

And for cal_gecko: I've bumped thousands of locks, but never have I bumped a lock that did not a.) belong to me, for which I had a "legitimate" key, or b.) that I did not have specific authorization to open by the person that owned whatever the lock was on.

Actually, I've made a fantastic deal of money as a lock out specialist, never having stolen a thing.

As fanciful as the media makes the entire "BUMP KEY ALERT" out to be, it's harder to employ than it looks from the videos on YouTube, and it's not rare for an experienced bumper to spend several minutes on a lock... and there are completely normal locks that are dirty, old and/or poorly keyed that a bump key would not open. Thus, I guarantee you that it is ALWAYS faster to crowbar the lock, kick the door or brick the window if you want to steal something.

Thus, my conclusion is that the majority of the people on this forum are either career locksmiths or hobby tinkerers.

And what, exactly, is the primary purpose of a gun, which can be so legally (and easily!) bought? Is the primary purpose... to not hurt anyone?

always make copies regardless. But on several occasions i've been pulled or seached not even in my car and all the while my "HOUSE" keys to a funny looking lock have been randomly thrown on my keychain w/house-car-boat whatever keys on it...... no trouble;)

Well I am in a law career and I'll fill you in on a few things about cops.

1) DO NOT let a cop search your car if you even think something might be suspicious, he didn't have probable cause to do so and therefor needed your permission. It is never a good idea to let a cop search your car for any reason "to avoid suspicion" blah blah. Just say "No, officer, I'm in a bit of a rush and I'd prefer for you not to" or something to that effect.

2) Your glove box and trunk cannot be searched unless you give explicit permission and it's a general rule that you must open the two compartments yourself if you agree to let a cop look around in them.

3) Next time just put all your keys in your pocket, he won't search you

4) The whole "possession of burglary tools" is BS, they could accuse me of premeditating a murder if I have a knife along that logic. He should not have been able to keep the keys because he had no proof or probable cause to believe that the keys were used for any purpose other than legal. Especially since they were 'depth keys' but he wouldn't point that out if you wouldn't.

5) It sounds like the cop was either having a bad day or trying to catch somebody on something to get his bonus at the end of the month for meeting his 'quota'. Especially if you passed the sobriety test (which surprisingly you also do not have to submit to, but if you chose to, it's fine) he had no reason to search your car.

Hey Dayton, just thought I would add a few things about dealing with the 5/0..(situation applys to american police and american laws, if your in canada just tell em to f off lol) If you get pulled over just be normal, if they ask to search and you have nothing except keys just say no to the search.. BUT make sure that you say why.. something like Im late to go pick up my kids ect ect.. You can tell them your busy and you dont want to go through the hassel.. for the most part they wont call in k9 unit (sniffing dogs) unless they have major suspicion. That is about the worst they can do if you say no to a search.

As for getting your keys back, that cop is most likely full of shit.. He probably wont say anything to that other cop unless he is a supervisor or internal affairs. You gotta remember that cops have each others backs and alot of them are more crooked than the criminals. Wouldnt get ur hopes up but hey I hope u get em back ;)

P.s. Cops in the United States are alot worse than the ones in Canada.. Compare the show cops to the canadian version "to serve and protect".

The American Version:
-People getting slammed on the floor
-Cops screaming KEEP YER HANDS ON THE WHEEL
-Cop viciously tackles some drunk guy and keeps his face planted in the concrete wit a knee to the back of the head

To Serve And Protect (Canadian Version)
-Cops walk up to 2 ugly drunk guys drinking half naked in their car, they take the beer and the guys DRIVE HOME.. no ticket nothing. The cop said "have a safe night eh"
-Two inuits drunk in public.. one says to the other.. hey man are we on tv man, yeah man, hey man hope those cops dont find out about the weed in yer basement dude.. The cops dont say or do shit just send em on there way.

Thats just a few examples of the difference between Canadian and American police.. Everyday I walk around puffing a "J" without fear of having to sit in an overcrowded jail. In the states I would probly have to hide it all the time.
The truth is the american gouvernment loves the prison system because it gets them free slave labor... (making license plates for 3cents an hour..)

Ok ok thats enuf outta me.. sorry to get off topic jus had to get that off my chest, now I can breath e z

good luck bro

I live in Houston, Texas. Here the police can do anything they want. It seems to me it really doesn't matter what you do, you can be polite or a jerk....same result. Beware of the cops with combat boots on. If you refuse a search it means nothing. Here you put up with whatever the cop wants to do, or kill him. You always have a choice, huh? I'm glad to here it holds true for most of the cops in the US. Canada keeps sounding better.

I've been to the States a couple of times.. New Hampshire and Florida, can't say that I've ever had any problems. Some cops are alright but for the most part cops are assholes who took the job so they can pwoer trip. I've heared alot of stories of people who have had problems when they goto the States, I would travel down south alot more if it wasn't for dirty cops and an even dirtyer gouvernment. Canadas gouvernment is getting really bad too nowadays, then again the gouvernment seems bad in almost every country... it would be great to let average people run shit!

awwwwwww you meth heads always beatin up on those crackheads about something...

american cops are assholes for the most part...ever watch the msnbc program about predators with chris hansen?.......ok....what happens...guys are supposedly talking to girls improperly raised my their parents or they wouldnt be engaged in sexual talk with adults in the first place...nuff on that cause i aint making excuses for the guys that show up

anyway..what happens in every show...guys peacefully talk to chris, apologize and walk out...what happens next...at least six armed and pointing deputies shout at the top of their lungs and one invariably tackles the guy, usually blindsiding him,he goes sprawling on the ground and gets some fat bastards knee in the back of his neck and youve never seen anyone even remotely act aggressive and warrant that behavior

and cops wonder why people distrust them and generally hate to see them

they bring attitudes against them by their own behavior againts the public

here where i live a county mounty just got busted for buying cocaine from an undercover decoy and evidence is coming out he did drugs with his son

good......let him know what he put others thru now that the show is on the other foot

to say those in law enforcement arent really criminals themselves more than we like to admit or is widely known is like saying cops dont kill their pregnant girlfriends and prosecutors arent disbarred for withholding evidence in high profile rape cases

probably 50% of those that are cops are there for the wrong reasons and frequently step outside the law to make cases

and lastly,all cops lie!

all cops lie!

thanks to Bush and his scare tactics,we now have homeland security which is a farce and we're now picking on the poorest of the poor in north america, the mexicans,as if they are a threat to national security

we fought for 30 years to get the berlin wall torn down and ill be damn if they dont want to build another one along 2000 miles of southern border

wonder when theyll continue that all along the south and then begin at the canadian border??

Except the Berlin Wall was to prevent people from fleeing a country with an oppressive government, and the proposed wall is preventing people coming in. Look up the UN's official Human rights. One is a violation of like three rights, one is not.

Not that I support the wall, I don't feel it will do anything.

gee.....thanks for the history lesson i didnt need...the point is ...neither wall does any good in the long run......they are bandaids over open wounds that in the long run,we will also be tearing down........walls work both ways,it keeps people in and keeps people out

you cant protect the borders of north america from anyone coming in and mexicans are being used as scapegoats in this farce in the war on terror while some ragheads are allowed to sue American Airlines because they were prevented from boarding after being witnessed kneeling and praying to their mythical god thus scaring the shit out of others

are real worries should be the fact that only 5% of the shipping containers ever get expected and that will be the way they get rpg's and maybe even nuclear weapon inside the border so the radicals we've already allowed into the countries of canada or america will be able to begin the violence here thats an everyday occurrence, over there

its coming!

I dunno guys,,, most cops are more crooked than my first bumpkey I filed that goes for governments across the globe as well. Alot of cops around my area are on the hells angels payrole, that explains why there are like 3 arrests a year but yet at least 20 hells related murders. Most cops are just in it for the power and it corrrupts them, they get a measly paycheck at the end of the week which makes them do crooked shit to get more. SOME cops are alright, but for the mostpart they are power hungry $*#$'s that dont deserve any power. Even when I was in highschool, I got busted once smoking a doobie on school time with some friends.. the cop took the J, carefully placed it on his dashboard then warned us and drove off. You think this guy brought it to the evidence room!? lolz, he mieswell have put the joint in his ashtrash instead of the dashboard ahhaha.
Thats in Canada tho, in the states im sure I woulda been tasting some concrete.

As for the American gouvernment... where do I start,, first off the Arabs arnt the ones to be afraid of, its george bush (even though he is just a scapegoat, fallguy he makes no real desicions). This guy got a dishonerable discharge from the army and yet hes the president not to mention his family is involved in many Arab companies. He is also making mils off the oil profits. Did you know Bin L*den used to be in the CIA? He was top ranked, and even after he left and joined al queda was still receiving american money. Also Bin L*aden was close to death when he was on the FBI top 10, in was in many newpapers than he was in a pakistan hospital. Apparently he got a visit from the American CIA. Start looking into theise things yerselves instead of listening to the BS media. Alot of conspiracy theories are bullsh*t but Id have to say there is alot of truth involved as well.

wow, this is getting off topic but still.. very interesting
