Does a rubber piece, a plastic piece, or a wooden piece work best for bump hammers???

What ever works for you is the best bumping tool. I prefer the plastic handle of a screwdriver

i am using a metal handle with a wooded piece that is bumping the key. i am having great luck with it, but i was just wondering if anything else would work better.

Use the old saying "if it ain't broken, don't fix it." if you do want to change up your bumping device I've heard a lot of success with the handle of a screwdriver.

I always used back side plastic (hard plastic) of a screw driver. But its true that whatever work best is the best used as hammer.
