What type of lock is a retail door such as a simple one for a restaurant or convenience store, and what key is recommended?

The key is based on the lock, the lock COULD be anything. As is stated elsewhere in the forums, the most common types of US locks are Schlage, Kwikset, Arrow, Dexter, Weiser, Yale, etc.

An emphasis on those first two, with the SC1 and KW1.

If you can get yourself a key profile, it will help identification greatly. Or just read the name on the lock. That works too, if one is present.

I think above post explained everything and also that depends upon the location, different locations have different types of lock used commonly.
