how do you know what side to put the tension on?

Typically I turn it clockwise. I dont think I havent found a lock that turned only counterclockwise. Even if thats the case, you'll try to bump it, and it'll click open, just wont turn, so you just gotta rebump it

This is strange if you found lock moving counterclockwise. According to my experience all the locks I worked on are moving clockwise to bump and I always put pressure on that direction.
