How much have you filed off already (in mm)?

Not quite sure, I think 1mm off both the tip and the shoulders, but I think i may have made a mistake in that I filed both shoulders not just the one. Just spent 3 hours in front of a door and nada... If I filed down too much, can I still get a copy made and play with that or do I need a whole new key?

After looking at these pictures, maybe the instructions should be changed from file "down" the shoulder to file "back" the shoulder.

perhaps, what happens to the key when you push it ALL the way into the lock and let go of the key (All the way meaning until the shoulder connnects with the lock)?
